IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM OUR DISTRICT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, Mr. Swinehart Recently, there has been a fair amount of press about sudden death in young athletes. No one is too young to be affected by this and not having a family history of cardiac disease does not mean you are safe. Fortunately, this is rare. For several years, Beaumont has offered a free screening program for high school students focused on identifying students at risk in an effort to avoid tragic deaths such as one that occurred recently in western Michigan and even closer to home in West Bloomfield. In the past, these screenings have taken place at Oakland University but after many requests they are holding the next session this spring in the western suburbs. Students receive a BP check, EKG, screening history, physical exam and, where appropriate, an echocardiogram. May 21 3 – 7 PM Milford High School May 22 9AM - 1 PM Milford High School Spaces are limited, so register soon. You may register online at http://heart.beaumonthospitals.com/student-screening . If the program is full or you are not able to attend, Beaumont also offers $25 screenings at the Ernst Cardiovascular Center at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Please call 800-328-8542 for more information. |
