VARSITY GAME RECAPS

Vs. South Lyon East  9-02-10

Vs. Livonia Churchill 8-26-10

The 2010 Walled Lake Black Knight Varsity football campaign began with what will be remembered with a mixture of emotion. Facing what turned out to be a formidable Livonia Churchill Chargers team, the game began with the Knights winning the toss and electing to defer to the second half. After a year-long wait anticipating this football season under warm sunny skies and long late summer shadows, the season began.  Click for complete recap...

With the Walled Lake Northern Football family still getting used to the thought of the season ahead without their starting QB, the focus turned to facing a new opponent for the first time. Only three years into existence as a school, the Cougars of South Lyon East came into this game looking to establish themselves in the KLAA with a 1-0 record. Vs. Walled Lake Central   9-10-10

It was all there. 2 and 0 for the first time in school history, your cross-town rival coming to your house and TV! Yes, TV! Early in the week this game was chosen to be one of the nominated games for Friday Frenzy on WDIV, channel 4 and immediately the students and everyone they knew smoked the competing games by garnering 78% of the vote! That meant that this game would be visited by a channel 4 crew for an early morning pep rally (can you say 5:30 a.m.?) and a news truck filming the game. Everything was working out perfectly for this to be the best game in school history. Almost too perfect.

Vs. Waterford Mott  9-17-10

After a tough loss the previous week, the Black Knights hit the road for the first time this season to Waterford Mott. And a welcome change it was.

After the Knights took the kickoff, Ryan Towns would see his first reception of the year on the first play from scrimmage for a 20 yd. gain. Then, on the next play, after an apparent fumble following a great run by Tyler Watzke, Northern would recover at the Mott 20. A series of persistent running plays led to the first touchdown and there was no looking back.

When Mott took the ensuing kickoff down to the Northern 20 and then scored a few plays later, that was about as close to a game that it was ever going to be. The fact that the Knights blocked the extra point seemed to almost be a forebearer of things to come for the Corsairs’ evening.
